World's Most Luxurious Cars - Maybach 62
![]()
24 July 2009
With the reemergence of Maybach, the line proves that a supercar doesn't have to be solely about muscle; it can be about supreme luxury, too. In 1909, Maybach started out as a manufacturer of luxury German automobiles. The brand eventually faded away in the mid 1900s.
Today however, Daimler AG has taken the reigns and Maybach is back on the map with their impressive 57 and 62 models. The Maybach 62 is based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan concept car, and in 2008, the Luxury Brand Status Index awarded 1st place to Maybach ahead of both Bentley and Rolls-Royce in an unprecedented upset.
The outside of the car has a classic sedan look, only extended. But inside of the car is where the term luxury is taken to an entirely new level. Of course, you can already assume that the soft leather seats and a spacious interior score big points for the 62, but an incredibly long list of amenities also includes automatic door closers, fully reclining rear seats, a built-in refrigerator, window curtains, massaging seats, and 10 airbags.
Although the car can get up and go and is undoubtedly a joy to drive, the real appeal of this car comes from riding in the back seat. Its twin bucket seating arrangement is separated by a console that houses an entertainment system. It's akin to sitting in a recliner in your living room.
Under the hood of the Maybach 62, you'll find no shortage of horsepower coming from the impressive engine. The 5.5 liter twin-turbo V12 engine puts out a whopping 604 horsepower and is able to move the large-sized Maybach from 0 to 60 in just 5 seconds.
Of course, the car is much larger and much heavier than sports supercars, but that's what makes its power so impressive. Even with no special effort made to make the Maybach 62 aerodynamic, it can still hold its own against supercars that were built for pure speed. Weighing 6,000 pounds, the 62 is the world's fastest sedan.
The Maybach 62 is built especially for those who intend to have a chauffeur, there's no doubt about it. The focus of this luxury automobile isn't on the handling and stopping capabilities, the speed and ease of shifting, or its time around the track; instead, it's all about the luxurious ride as a passenger in this stately limousine-like automobile. Still, the 62 performs exceptionally well for drivers, proving to handle well, stop well, and run at high speeds if needed.
It's been said that the Maybach 62 offers every convenience of a luxury home, minus the bathroom. It's truly a luxury lover's dream, featuring unsurpassed comfor that consistently scores higher than other luxury brands, and, the best part about Maybach, the price is still competitive. A standard 62 model is available for around $440k - still a large sum of money, but about the same price as a typical Rolls-Royce.
