World’s Most Expensive Properties - Aaron Spelling's Mansion
![]()
09 July 2009
The late Aaron Spelling is known for introducing a generation of teens to such primetime classics as Beverly Hills, 90210, and Melrose Place, as well as a long list of other hit shows and high-grossing movies over the years. His home just outside of Los Angeles, California, “The Manor,” is considered one of the world's 10 most expensive properties.
The legendary producer had the home built in 1991 and made sure to include all the luxuries that any self-respecting entertainment mogul could ever want. The Manor was built atop the lot where Bing Crosby's former home stood. Spelling spent an estimated $47-million on the mansion.
The Manor contains over 56,000 square-feet of floor space, making it the largest single-family (residence) home in all of Hollywood. Although it rests only on a six-acre lot, the home easily stands out amongst all other of Hollywood's large and robust dwellings.
The Manor has 123-rooms, and to give an idea of how large the inside of the home is, Spelling himself is famously quoting as saying, “I'm still trying to find the bathroom,” after months of living in the home. The large size of the home has even created some controversy. Due to its proximity to a nearby golf course, The Manor appears to some as an eyesore. However, Spelling always insisted this was mere jealousy.
Other than the 123-rooms, the house also contains a bowling alley, full gym, tennis court, private screening room, a swimming pool, and four separate 2-car garages. The home is estimated to be 31-times larger than the average American home, and more than 90-times larger than the average apartment.
The Manor is larger than the Taj Mahal, and nearly the size of a football field. The house also contains a recreation of the left-bank of the Seine inside, making it wholly unique to any other “mega home.”
A skating rink inside adds another unique touch, as well as a doll museum, and a large room used exclusively for wrapping presents. There's also an entire floor - not room, but floor - dedicated to nothing but closet space. There's a private orchard on the grounds, beautiful gardens, pools, a guest home, a fountain, and it's all surrounded by sporadic patches of woodland that work to lend privacy to the exclusive home.
Shortly after Aaron Spelling's death in 2006 from complications resulting from a stroke, The Manor was sold for $130-million instead of going to his daughter, Tori, like many had speculated. The proud owner is an Arabian prince.
As one of the largest private residences not only in the United States but in the entire world, The Manor repeatedly receives recognition and has been featured on television and in various magazines, including Forbes.
