World's Most Expensive Properties - Antilla
30 June 2009
It is said that the average human brain cannot picture more than 9 individual items at once. After that, everything becomes clumped up and blurred. Needless to say, Mukesh Ambani's bank account is beyond comprehension. He is worth an estimated $45,000,000,000 (45-billion).That's an insane amount of money, and it also leaves him in sole possession of the title of richest man in Asia. What does a man with that much money do? What else; he builds a home with an estimated price tag of $2-billion dollars. Antilla, the brainchild of Ambani, is expected to be completed later this year (2009).
Antilla isn't your ordinary home, even by billionaire standards. It's an entire building - a 27-storey skyscraper - with a highly unique and ultra-modern design. Some floors are open, with expansive terraces, greenery, and other unique features.
The building's design is based on the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the original Seven Wonders of the World. Antilla is also designed to the criteria of Feng Shui, and uses various architectural elements to catch the eye and utilize space. The entire building is 568-feet high, meaning that every level will be an average of 20-feet high.
The higher up you go in Antilla, the more at home you'll feel. The first six floors of the complex are used for parking the Ambani family cars, and the seventh floor is dedicated to maintaining those cars with a mechanics shop, carwash, and more. Immediately above it on the eighth floor, the “living” actually begins with a huge 50-seat movie theater and a rooftop garden with large balconies.
Everything the Ambani's could possibly want or need is located in Antilla. This includes a hospital on the ninth floor in case someone in the family, staff, or one of the guests falls ill or needs medical attention.
Going up another floor, you'll find the tenth and eleventh floors are also dedicated to good health. These floors contain a health club, swimming pools, and other athletic facilities. The next series of floors contains two-storey guest apartments that are fully decked out with huge kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, balconies, and much more.
Finally, the next four floors of the building will be where the Ambani's will live. This is where the building's luxury truly makes itself known. Priceless artwork, marble, granite, gold and every other high-class material imagined was used to make these four floors as extravagant as they could be.
The final three floors of Antilla are reserved for the building's maintenance and a control room for the three helipads attached.
A popular anonymous quote from the Ancient Roman period states that man would eventually have to build up instead of out. Ambani makes this vision a reality with his skyscraper Antilla. Coming in at $2-billion, it's by far the world's most expensive private residence.
