The Great Wall of China is one of the world’s wonders, and as such, it brings in massive amounts of tourism every year. This wall was built to keep the Ancient Chinese Empire safe from outside invaders. It was originally constructed around the 5th century BC and has been rebuilt and maintained regularly.
In 2002, the Chinese decided that their Great Wall could be even more lucrative if they decided to build a luxurious resort beside it. Commune by the Great Wall was a massive undertaking by China, and 12 of the best architects in Asia lent their expertise to seeing this project to fruition. Commune consists of a collection of private villas in Beijing, China.
Badaling has always been one of the focal points of the Great Wall, so when it was time to build a luxury resort, this section of the wall was the perfect spot. The plan in building these private villas was to inspire tourism, obviously, and also to inspire other Asian architects to eventually lend their creative vision to the project and expand the resort.
The Commune by the Great Wall consists of one very large clubhouse and 11 separate and equally impressive villas. Each villa is like a mansion on its own, containing a living room, dining room, a large chef’s kitchen, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, huge decks and terraces, and much more. Depending on the villa, some even have sauna rooms, rooftop living and outdoor barbeque facilities.
The entire resort is situated in a beautiful scenic valley making up eight square kilometers. With views of the mountains and the Great Wall itself, Commune is highly rated as one of Asia’s most unique resorts.
The 11 rooms of Commune by the Great Wall are: the Suitcase House, Furniture House, See and Seen House, Distorted Courtyard, Airport, Cantilever House, Bamboo Wall, Shared House, The Twins, Forest House, and Split House. The suites are used by honeymooners, businesspeople, the rich and famous, and regular vacationers looking for a luxury resort.
Dining options at the Commune by the Great Wall are also plentiful. They have four food series featuring Sichuan, Cantonese and Beijing cuisines, and the series’ are entitled Vegetarian Food, Spicy Sichuan Food, Nourishing Cantonese Food, and Peking Roast Duck. There’s also a large selection of fine wines to choose from, and guests can select from three restaurants: the Terrace Lounge, Café Village and Courtyard Restaurant.
Over the past few years, Commune by the Great Wall Resort has become one of the foremost locations in all of Asia for upscale weddings, private parties, events and conferences, and people looking for a world-class spa while vacationing.
There might be more added to Commune by the Great Wall in the future, but the way it stands now, the resort’s 12 structures, the scenery and the Great Wall itself provide more than enough reason for folks to visit.
