20 March 2011
The 2011 Grand Prix in Australia is set to be just as exciting as always, with plenty of events to keep you entertained.
It all kicks off on Thursday 24th March with the practice races and qualifying races. The first practice is at 11:20 with the V8 Supercars Prizewinners Hot Laps. We’ll then also see the Shannons Histrorics Demonstrations on that day and the Red Bull Practice race, the Lexus Celebrity Practice and the V8 Supercars Albert Park 400 Practice.
After lunch there is the Formula 5000 Tasman Cup Revival, Porsche Carrera Cup Championship, and Ultimate Speed Comparison practices. These should all be good fun to watch to ‘warm up’ the event.
The afternoon then moves onto the qualifying races: first off is the Lexus Celebrity Challenge qualifying, then Porsche Carrera Cup Championship qualifying, Ultimate Speed Demonstration qualifying, followed by the Formula 5000 Tasman Cup qualifying and finally the V8 Supercars Albert Park 400 qualifying to finish off the day.
The Friday should be a little more exciting as the races actually begin. The first race on Friday is the Shannons Historic Demonstration at 11:00, followed by the exciting Porsche Carrera Cup race which lasts for 6 laps.
At 12:05 there is a Baclkhawk Helicopter Aerial Display too which is great for the kids. Then the real fun starts, when we see the first practice session for the Formula One cars lasting a whole hour and a half. The second of the Ultimate Speed Demonstrations follows that, then it’s the Lexus Celevb Circuit Practice, followed by the qualifier for the V8 Super Cars Albert Park 400 Top Ten Shootout.
After that is the second of the Formula One practice sessions lasting another 90 minutes, and finally the day ends with the V8 Super Cars Albert Park 400 Race.
Saturday 26th March is possibly the busiest day of the whole event, with the first of the Formula 5000 Tasman Cup Revivals, followed by the first Red Bull Race Off and the Lexus Celeb Challenge. At 13:30 there is the Kiowa helicopter display before the third Formula One Practice which lasts an hour.
The second Porsche Carrera Cup Championship race is next, and then the third Ultimate Speed Demonstration which will be as thrilling as always. Another Blackhawk helicopter display will be on at 16:30 and then the exciting Formula One Qualifying Session is at 17:00 lasting an hour. The day finishes with the second V8 Supercars Albert Park 400.
The final day is the day of the Australian Grand Prix itself, which is on from 17:00 for 2 hours. The drivers parade is at 15:30. Earlier in the day are more Formula 5000, V8 Supercars, Lexus Celebs and Porsche Carrera races.
There is also a Mustang Demonstration and more helicopter displays as well as a Qantas Jet low flyover just prior to the Formula One main event. The day ends with a concert from 19:00 to 21:00. All in all there is plenty of entertainment and it will be a great family weekend.
