Ultimate Experiences Titanic Diving Adventure

There are few people alive today who haven’t heard of the Titanic. Even if they only know it by the ultra successful movie, they’re still well aware of the quick switch from triumph to tragedy that surrounds the vessel. Since the Titanic was discovered at the bottom of the ocean, many have wanted to see the wreckage, and now the Titanic Diving Adventure offers the chance.
The RMS Titanic was launched out of Southampton, England, on April 10, 1912. At the time, it was the largest passenger steamship in the world and considered by many, at their detriment, to be “unsinkable.” Four days after taking off, Titanic hit an iceberg and sank, killing over 1,500 people on its way to infamy.
Unlike many adventure packages offered to the public today, the Titanic Diving Adventure doesn’t take place at a mock soundstage, racetrack or in some abandoned warehouse. You’re actually in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and diving down to see the wreckage on this journey. It’s unlike anything else on the planet.
This experience definitely constitutes an entire vacation. You won’t simply head out to sea, visit the Titanic’s resting place and then come home. The Titanic Diving Adventure encompasses 12 full days of activity and will enable you to become completely familiarized with the sea and the diving process.
There are a few requirements on a journey like this, however. Ironically, having previous underwater diving experience isn’t one of them. Since the Titanic is resting on the sea floor two miles below the surface, you’ll be in a submersible and won’t have to brave any of the cold waters around Newfoundland.
You will have to be 18 years of age, though, and also in good health without any of the following: obesity, heart problems, respiratory problems, arthritis (the pressure causes joints to inflame) and/or claustrophobia. All participants meeting the requirements will have to sign a liability waiver.
You’ll arrive at St. John’s, Newfoundland on day one for a brief orientation and a night’s sleep at the Fairmont Hotel before heading out on day two. It’s a full day’s boat trip to get to the site, and days three and four are spent preparing for the actual diving. You’ll have meals and entertainment options during this time.
On day five, your diving sessions will begin. You’ll receive briefings, lectures, and eventually head out on your expedition in a scientific marine submersible vessel. You’ll have four entire days of diving and researching the Titanic. Days ten and eleven comprise your trip back and then you leave on the twelfth day.
Weather isn’t usually a factor for this adventure, due to the underwater location. However, if the weather gets too severe, then the trip will be delayed. The price of this two-week vacation is nearly $50,000 per person and expedition dates vary.
