Top Restaurant Review - Pierre Gagnaire, France
25 March 2009
The wheel might never need to be reinvented, but some improvements don't hurt. The same goes for French cuisine. Although it's one of the oldest and most well-respected cuisines in the world, improvements and innovations on the classic style only work to make the age-old cooking style more appealing. Pierre Gagnaire, the world's foremost innovator of French cuisine, has successfully updated this centuries old technique and his self-named restaurant in Paris is one of the most dynamic, cutting-edge, and popular places to eat in the world. This iconoclastic chef is the owner of 6 world-renowned restaurants, but none are as famous as Pierre Gagnaire Paris.
Pierre's style of French cuisine is for the refined palate only. You won't find cheeseburgers or nachos in his Paris location, nor will you find gut-busting plate sizes for the high price of one of the meals. Gagnaire's dishes exude formal elegance with their petite proportions and robust richness. His “modern French” evolution is considered the new trend among chefs.
There are many imitators in the world who are injecting Pierre's style into their dishes, hoping to gain some of the recognition that the talented Gagnaire has over the years. With his Paris location, Pierre has cemented his position as one of the world's greatest at his respective craft.
Pierre Gagnaire's restaurant is located at 6 rue Balzac in Paris, France. The location is absolutely beautiful, with the restaurant sitting center a wooded area. Diners can sit next to one of the large windows in the restaurant and enjoy the peaceful nature as they eat. Unlike many restaurants employing bells and whistles to capture a diner's attention, Pierre relies solely on his cuisine. However, that's not to say that the inside of the restaurant isn't stunning. The dark mahogany wood bar and the well-lit seating area play beautifully together. The restaurant has a classic feel, but it's also open and airy. The inviting atmosphere has the “everyman” appeal while the food is strictly upscale.
The popular British magazine aimed at chefs, Restaurant, has ranked Pierre Gagnaire's establishment as one of the top 20 in the world - and one of the top 3 in France. The Paris location has won three Michelin stars, and the world has taken notice, reserving spots up to a year in advance to try Pierre's unique take on a classic style of cuisine.
Pierre stated about his restaurant, “I want my restaurant to be a place that feels open … living in the present, looking to the future but respectful of the past.” He goes on to say that he's over-enthusiastic about his cuisine, and he hopes that diners will forgive that aspect of his personality. As the line to get into his Paris location suggests, all is forgiven. Gagnaire is well-known for blending up to four unique flavors and textures in any one of his dishes. His food is regarded as beautiful to look at and even more so to eat.
