Ventriloquists have long had their place in show business. Of course, some are better than others, and it doesnt take but a slip of the tongue literally - to go from the top of the world to the bottom of the dummy heap. For Terry Fator, his has been a road paved in gold, it seems, with TV spots, big-time endorsements, and an ongoing Vegas show at the Mirage.
Terry Fator is one of the most unique ventriloquists working in the entertainment world today. Not only is his delivery nearly flawless, with every dummy he uses having a distinct personality and voice, but Fator also adds singing into his act. This is something that no other famous ventriloquist has ever tried on this level and been successful.
Fator won the hit TV show Americas Got Talent in 2007 by wowing the judges with his impressive singing talent. Terry is able to keep completely tight-lipped while belting out such classics as I Got You Babe and, his show-winning number and Etta James mega hit, At Last.
CMT (Country Music Television) quickly picked up on Terrys Vegas show and aired the hour-long program on their station as his show was just starting to gain a head of steam. Since then, its been complete smooth sailing. Fans are constantly astonished by Fators ability to perform.
Not to be outdone by his puppets, Fator devotes a little time in his show to showcase his own great singing voice. This usually drives the fans wild. Sure, they know that its him singing for the puppets, but to actually open his mouth and belt it out gives a much better idea of just how great a singer Fator actually is.
His show can be described as nothing less than dynamic. Terrys puppets include a singing turtle, a country music enthusiast, an Elvis impersonator, the quintessential ladies man, and even a life-sized Cher puppet that he semi-controls in order to end the show with Sonny and Chers I Got You Babe.
To do this, Fator calls up a member from the audience usually a guy who is a good few inches taller than Fator, who isnt exactly short himself. Once on the stage, Fator dresses the volunteer in a Cher puppet-front costume, complete with an arm control. When its set up, it appears as if Terry is controlling a huge Cher puppet.
The singing is great and, at this point, its what is drawing the fans in; but Fator isnt a one-trick pony by any stretch of the imagination. Once he selects a character, theres a good five minutes of back-and-forth banter before breaking out into song. This comedy is the classic ventriloquist act, and theres no one working today that does it better.
Fators show is rather expensive to attend, costing upwards of $100 per ticket, but most fans leave the beautiful Mirage auditorium feeling as if they got their moneys worth. Terry hasnt let the fame go to his head, either. Hes been the consummate professional.
