Throughout the history of cinema, few movies have had an impact quite like the James Bond series. 007's legacy is unwavering, and even in 2008, the Bond character is kept alive by Daniel Craig. The universe loves symmetry and always finds a way to pit hero against villain as a way to even things out.
For every great James Bond mission, there has been an impressive villain there attempting to stop Her Majesty's top agent from saving the day.
In no particular order, here are the top 5 James Bond villains of all time.
1 - Jaws. This 7-foot giant with the metal mouth was introduced first in The Spy Who Loved Me, and became an instant hit. The sheer size of this bad-guy made for an impressive showing on the silver screen. Able to chew through everything from bone to steel, Jaws was a worthy adversary for Bond, giving this super-spy all he could handle. Because of the popularity of Jaws, he made yet another appearance in Moonraker. But brawn did not prevail in the end. It was Jaws' lack of brainpower which always left him defeated. In the end, Jaws found love and abandoned his life of crime.
2 - Rosa Klebb. In the earlier James Bond films, the roles women played were either as the Bond girls or villains. In the film and novel From Russia with Love, Rosa Klebb's character is based on a popular Soviet phrase for women's rights, khleb I rozy. In the film, Rosa's shoes are her greatest weapon against all her oppose her authority. As a high-ranking official for SMERS, Klebb has developed a hard-nosed attitude and seemingly a hatred for all men. Her unforgettable performance ranks her as a top 5 Bond villain.
3 - Francisco Scaramanga. Perhaps the most comical of all Bond villains due his particular physical defect (a third nipple), Scaramagna will always be remembered as the world's number one assassin in The Man with the Golden Gun. Christopher Lee delivers a stellar performance in this instant Bond classic. The hunt for this villain makes it memorable, as Scaramagna remains anonymous to Bond for most of the film.
4 - Oddjob. In the movie Goldfinger, it wasn't Auric who made the movie that memorable, but his mute servant. This Korean killer used a steel-brimmed hat to behead any person who touched on his master's nerves. In one of the best battles in Bond history, 007 gets more than he bargained for against this ruthless villain.
5 - Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Blofeld is the most popular Bond villain of all time. This top man behind SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion) appears in multiple Bond films: From Russia with Love, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Diamonds are Forever, For Your eyes Only, and Never Say Never Again. Blofeld is best known for his bald head, sitting creepily in his chair, petting his cat (if you've never seen a Bond film, you'd know Blofeld as Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers series). This murderous villain has been played by multiple characters, each lending a new level of worthiness to the villain.
