Out of the thousands of casinos in the world, many often wonder which is the largest. Though America boasts some big casinos in places like Las Vegas and Connecticut, it's China that tops the list with their monstrous casino, The Venetian.
The Venetian Macao is a casino resort in Macau, China, and is owned by the Las Vegas Sands hotel-casino chain. This 40-story building is set to be the anchor for the 7 resort hotels which are currently under construction on the Cotai Strip in Macau. Modeled after its sister casino in Las Vegas, the Venetian Macao is an astonishing 10,500,000-square-feet, and is the largest single structure building in all of Asia, and third largest in the entire world.
The main hotel tower was finished in the summer of 2007 and the resort officially opened for business in August of the same year. With over 3,000 suites, the Venetian also has 3400 slot machines, 800 gambling tables, and a 15,000 seat arena for sports and entertainment events.
The casino is divided into 4 themed gaming areas: Golden Fish, Imperial House, Red Dragon, and Phoenix. The casino is open around the clock. The 3000 suites include multi-bay suites, designed for the high-rollers, but they offer accommodations for any and everyone. Their different styles include Royale, Bella, Rialto, Hospitality parlor, and Paiza suites.
The Venetian name is well-known for lavish and elaborate accommodations. But apart from being a great place to stay, The Venetian is also an all-around vacation experience. You can enjoy various spas, sporting events, fine dining, shopping, etc. With a little something for everyone, the Venetian Macao is projected to be the world's most popular casino in the next few years.
It's not only the Macau destination where the Venetian excels, the Las Vegas Venetian is also a remarkable place. The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas is the largest AAA five-diamond rated Resort in the Americas. Located on the Vegas Strip, this Venice-themed luxury hotel and casino is on the site of the old Sands Hotel. The American Venetian has over 4,000 suites and a 120,000-square-foot casino.
American billionaire Sheldon Adelson plans to make The Venetian Macao a launching pad for an entire area of entertainment. He announced that this 2.4 billion dollar resort on Cotai will contribute much to launch a massive and concentrated resort area that he plans to call the Cotai Strip.
Adelson's plans are to open more hotels under brands such as Four Seasons, Sheraton, and St. Regis. All together, Las Vegas Sands plans to invest $12 billion and build 20,000 hotel rooms on the Strip by 2010.
The Grand Opening of the Venetian Macao had a few bumps in the road. Fully paid-up guests of the hotel were being turned away due to overbooking. However, The Venetian covered all charges in full when guests were forced to stay elsewhere.
Since then, there have been no reported problems from the world's largest casino. The Venetian Macao is attracting guests from all over the world.
