The Gulfstream V-SP is a heavy business or private jet produced by the Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation back in 2003. Gulfstream V has spawned two variants, namely the G500 and G550. The latter is the upgraded descendant of the Gulfstream V-SP and is considered the pride among other business aircrafts built by Gulfstream.
The prototype of the V-SP during its early development in 2001 aimed to be the best in its class. The end product is certainly a success and by far has the record for the longest flying range among other heavy private jets. The body of the jet is also the longest built by the corporation yet and the cabin is extra spacious because of the smaller cockpit area.
High tech modern technologies are used to build this jet and as explained by the Senior Vice-President of the corporation: “14-inch LCD displays, Honeywell's Primus Epic Avionics Suite, Gulfstream's Signature Cursor Control Device and various other components integrated into the PlaneView cockpit, the most advanced cockpit in commercial aviation today.” Flying is made easier for the pilots as they can benefit from the PlaneView cockpit which displays information for the airports, flight, weather and also the air traffic on four separate LCD monitors.
The speed of the Gulfstream V-SP can reach up to Mach .88 thanks to the two Rolls-Royce BR-710 engines and also the aerodynamics design which eases the drag on the jet. The high speed varies with the flying range of the aircraft as shorter flights tend to go on higher speeds. With the substantial added miles than its predecessors, this jet is able to fly 6750 nautical miles making it the first heavy business aircraft to do so.
The heavy aircraft is installed with the Enhanced Vision System which consists of infrared cameras to help the pilots in manoeuvring safe landing during blind flying. There is also Synthetic Vision- Primary Flight Display option to assist safe piloting in zero visibility conditions. These functions help to prepare the pilots for the worst case scenarios during flight and provide safety for the cabin crew and passengers alike.
The interior is spacious with four separate living areas including a kitchen with cabinets. The volume baggage compartment is also enlarged and passengers can have unrestricted access to the baggage area due to a second cabin pressurization bulkhead. The cabin pressurization offers extra comfort as it can maintain atmospheric pressure at 6000 feet up in the air.
This massive aircraft can take in 4 cabin crews and up to 19 passengers. Passengers have access to communications technology including the phone and internet on flight. The aircraft can also be fitted with the Gulfstream’s Broad Band Multi Link for high speed internet but this will incur operating costs.
The Gulfstream V-SP offers an unparalleled experience in flying on a business jet. Most flight charter companies offer the Gulfstream V-SP on their business jet air charter and the name Gulfstream is predominantly heard in the industry. Travel in comfort and assurance with this aircraft.
