Private Islands for Sale: Olhuvelhi & Embudhufushi Islands

The Maldives is one of the most spectacular sets of islands on the globe, and the Dhaalu Atoll, part of the island chain, holds dozens of beautiful islands, islets and coves, some of which are inhabited per the Republic of Maldives, and others that are privately owned like the “twin” islands of Olhuvelhi and Embudhufushi.
These two private islands are currently on the market for around $25 million, and each boasts a luxurious tropical atmosphere with beaches and many other impressive features. Most impressive is the actual setting itself. Olhuvelhi and Embudhufushi Islands share the same natural lagoon in the Dhaalu Atoll, and is close to other islands like Angsana Velavaru.
Olhuvelhi is the smaller island, coming in at around 6 hectares. However, that’s no small size when talking about a privately owned piece of land, much less an island. Embudhufushi is the larger of the two private islands, comprising approximately 11 hectares.
One of the strongest selling points of these islands is the future construction to take place. There are many projects going on in the Indian Ocean, most of which are aimed at improving existing islands to increase tourism dollars and to transform the Maldives into an upscale community in general much like Dubai.
Plans are underway to ship in massive amounts of white sand to create acre upon acre of extended white-sand beaches along the coastlines of each island. Olhuvelhi will swell from 6 hectares to 9 hectares after the building process is complete, and Embudhufushi will grow from its 11 hectares to over 13.
That’s not the only construction project happening on and around these two private islands. Right now, the only way to travel to the island, unless you’re on a boat, is to take a seaplane and land in the immediate vicinity of the islands. Plans are underway to install a full-sized airstrip on an adjacent island only a few miles away, making travel by small boat quick and convenient.
Currently, the islands are pretty barren in terms of buildings. You’ll find a lot of trees and natural wildlife on both islands, but won’t find anything else as of yet. However, there are also plans to construct resorts on the island pair.
The islands are being pitched as an investment opportunity to create resorts and not so much as a location for private homes. The current plans for Olhuvelhi Island include a 5-star resort consisting of 30 large beach villas, 4 master suites, 40 water bungalows, various restaurants and bars, a full-size spa, and much more.
There are also similar plans for Embudhufushi, although the resort isn’t quite as impressive Embudhufushi will boast 44 villas, 3 restaurants, a bar and a pool. For any tycoon type looking to create a resort, these islands would make a great location.
