Private Islands for Rent - Bonefish Cay, Bahamas

Bonefish Cay is a private island for rent located in the Abaco Island chain in the Bahamas. Although the island isn’t very large, only coming in at 13 acres, it’s completely decked out with a lavish, hurricane-proof home. Bonefish Cay gets its name due to the surrounding bonefish around the island.
If you want to treat yourself and friends or family, it’s rather expensive to rent: around $50,000 per week. Alternatively, you can have it for keeps as it’s up for sale at $14.5m.
The island certainly wasn’t an accident find turned into a quick money-making venture. The owners of the island worked for years to construct the housing on the island, landscape and property and the end result is a resort-like structure that encompasses much of the island. At 15,000 square feet, the buildings on the island offer plenty of room for the guests.
The main house on Bonefish Cay is 5,000 square feet and features some of the finest building materials from North America and Europe. The other buildings are comprised of three bungalows that surround the main house. In total, there are 8 double rooms among the bungalows and they can house up to 14 guests comfortably.
There are five buildings in total on Bonefish Cay; and while they’re all designed to be open and airy, the rooms are fully air conditioned. The entire island generates its own electricity, and rooms feature telephone and internet services, televisions, and much more.
The main house features a lavish master suite with a gigantic bathroom, living area, deck and much more. The bungalows, while not nearly as large, also feature private bathrooms and queen-sized sleeping arrangements. All buildings have posh furnishings and well-designed interiors, featuring cypress wood ceilings and sliding windows.
Although the private island has, for all intents and purposes, private residences, there is still a large gourmet-style kitchen where employees work and from which all guests are served. The kitchen is beautifully designed and uses state-of-the-art equipment to crank out Asian, French and Bahamian food. Of course, being an island, a lot of the cuisine centers on fresh seafood.
There are also plenty of activities to keep guests busy on Bonefish Cay. Indoors, guests can play billiards via a full-sized pool table, play chess or dominoes from the game boards, poker from a full-sized table, or other games like pinball. Snorkeling, swimming, boating, hiking and other island favorites round out the activity list.
For guests looking for a nice cocktail to help them wind down, Bonefish Cay features a one-of-a-kind homemade maple bar where the bartender serves fresh tropical drinks, as well as coffee, sodas, and other refreshments.
Any guest planning on traveling to Bonefish Cay should know that the entire island is not there for their enjoyment. Approximately two-thirds of the island is a bird sanctuary. People in these parts of the island will not disturb the birds, but there are some parts of the island that are untouched completely and need to stay that way.
