Private Island Rentals - Forsyth Island, New Zealand

Over the past few decades, private islands have really picked up popularity as “in” places to rent and purchase in order to vacation in luxury. Obviously, only the uber-rich among us are able to outright purchase a private island, but more have enough financial fortune to rent one for a weekend. In the beautiful waters of the Pacific, Forsyth Island is a private paradise for rent.
Forsyth Island isn’t exactly your run-of-the-mill private island. Most islands—especially those in the Caribbean chain—are smaller and sometimes in relatively remote locations. Forsyth has a commanding location in the Marlborough Sounds between the north and south isles of New Zealand.
At an impressive 2,100 acres, Forsyth Island is far more like a resort than it is a private vacation location. The sprawling landscape is covered in greenery, wraparound beaches, private homes and much more. The peaks of the island reach upwards of 1,000 feet and the overall land mass is everything you think of when you hear the word “island.”
The ultra modern accommodations are a strong selling point of Forsyth Island. The newly-built lodge took years to complete. Cutting-edge designs and state-of-the-art materials were used in its construction. The end result is an expansive 232 square meter house with every modern amenity you could possibly think of.
The open-air design of the lodge is perfect for the environment. It’s light, airy and the natural wood floors and ceilings lend a log cabin-like feel to the inside while the outside of the lodge is more like a large New Zealand-style home. The living area of the lodge is fully open with large floor-to-ceiling windows that provide panoramic views of the island.
Instead of designing the lodge with multiple smaller bedrooms, the nearly 7,000 square-foot home only has three large bedrooms, all of which could be described as master suites. Each bedroom has a large queen-sized bed, huge windows, a balcony area and an en suite bathroom with walk-in shower, large tub and much more.
If the three large bedrooms, open loft area, cathedral ceilings and large windows weren’t enough, the gourmet kitchen is certainly a standout feature of the house – as well as the terrace with Jacuzzi tub, grilling area and other landscaping features around the enormous lodge.
As a guest, however, you won’t have to step foot into the kitchen if you don’t want to. There are world-class cooks working at Forsyth Island to prepare a wide array of tantalizing international cuisine at your leisure. Although, if you’re a do-it-yourself vacationer, feel free to cook your own meals using the kitchen or the BBQ.
Being an island, of course, most of the fun is in the surrounding activities outside of the house. The deep waters just off the shore are perfect for boating, and the areas around the beaches are ideal for fishing and/or snorkeling. Tours of the entire island are also available to all guests staying there.
