The 41-year-old billionaire is a mystery to most. While most of Russia's mega rich are out and about, making mind-numbing purchases at an alarming rate, Deripaska remains reclusive and out of the limelight. Oleg lives in Moscow with his wife and his two children.
Oleg Vladimirovich Deripaska was born January 2, 1968 in Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia. Oleg was a gifted child from birth. He was among the brightest not only in his respective school, but all of Russia.

Shortly after graduating from the university, Oleg worked to establish a small metals trading company. Eventually, he was able to affirm his position in the market and the domestic metals industry received its newest player. The metal market is always rife with opportunity since the fall of the Soviet Union, and Deripaska was the next in line to capitalize on the industry.
Oleg used his profits to purchase shares of the Sayanogorsk Aluminum Smelter, which was the nation's third largest electrolysis plant. Derispaska became the director of the smelter in 1994 and worked to make the plant one of the highest-grossing in the industry. He excelled at implementing new technological developments and improving product quality as well as environmental safety.
Expert named the Sayanogorsk Aluminum Smelter as one of Russia's top 20 companies in 1998, and by 2000, Oleg's company had become one of the top ten aluminum producers in the world. Derispaska merged his group, Sibirsky, with other leading groups from around the world and formed United Company RUSAL, which is the world's largest producer of aluminum and alumina.
The money immediately rolled in upon the merger, and Oleg soon branched out to work with different investment companies, like Basic Element. Derispaska is also Vice President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Chairman of the Russian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce, and a Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship Council member.
Deripaska received the Russian Federation Order of Friendship Award in 1999 and was named Businessman of the Year in 1999, 2006, and 2007 by Vedomosti, a business publication partner to the Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal.
