Singapore, a seemingly unseen island on the globe stores many wonders to be discovered. One of them would be the Singapore Crocodilarium, located at the south of the island along the East Coast Parkway. Whether you are travelling with family or friends, a visit to this tourist spot is guaranteed to be an eye opener.

The Singapore Crocodilarium may sound like any typical crocodilian farm that you can find around Asia but it is not. In fact, it houses more than 1000 types of reptiles besides crocodiles and is the largest enclosed crocodilian farm in South East Asia. Normal visits usually last about 2 hours and the ticket price is a total steal; only S$2 for adults and S$1 for children.

Walking by the forum area, visitors get to be up close and personal with the crocodilians as they are displayed at a really close range. The workers at the Crocodilarium are familiar with these reptiles and visitors can ask them any questions about these reptiles. Children especially love these scary, wrinkly creatures and there is also a session when visitors are allowed to feed the young.

One of the highlights in the Singapore Crocodilarium is the crocodile shows. Dangerous acts involving these reptiles are performed in front of spectators and in most occasions, leave the visitors in awe like when a member of staff places his head between the jaws of the crocodile! Most of these performers are from the northern state of Thailand and are professionally trained to handle these predators.

Visitors are not bound to tip after the performances but if they do, they can leave tips by dropping the money into the crocodile’s jaws! There are so many ways to keep the visitors fascinated with these crocodiles in the Singapore Crocodilarium. For the children, this is a fun learning experience with a lot of action involved.

There are many visitors to the Crocodilarium even scientists and researchers come here to study these reptiles. The place is constructed as such to resemble the natural habitat of the crocodilians which is why the enthused choose to come here to study them. Amongst the studies conducted here include living habitat, habit and behavioural researches.

The gift and souvenir shop in the Crocodilarium sells most of crocodile leather products and yes, they are made from their own breed! The secondary purpose of most crocodilian farms is to produce meat and leather out of the species and the Crocodilarium is no exception. You can find most of the crocodilian leather made into purses, handbags and other accessories in the shop.

The Singapore Crocodilarium is one of the fine examples to show the future generation that despite being a developed country, the preservation of nature is also important. Despite being one of the most advanced countries in South East Asia, Singapore has gradually increased its reputation as one of the main tourist attractions. Do not ever think that the Singapore Crocodilarium is boring; most visitors sing praises about the place and you will just have to visit it to find out for yourself.

"I am interested to know when you visited the Crocodilarium, I have lived in Singapore for over 4 years and regularly go past the place where this is supposed to be. There is no Crocodilarium on the East Coast."
