Major Attractions Surrounding Las Vegas - Mummy Springs

There aren’t many places to walk to in seclusion if you’re in Las Vegas. With the many restaurants, shops, casinos and other large buildings in the metro area, Sin City is basically the city life on steroids. Outside of the city, however, is a different story. The Clark County area offers plenty of hiking locations for visitors, including the popular Mummy Springs.
Mummy Mountain stands tall as the second highest peak of the Spring mountain range in Nevada. It got its name due to resembling a sarcophagus of ancient Egypt. Mummy Springs is a trail found further down the mountain and makes for great hiking that even beginners can enjoy without having to worry about hardcore climbing.
Mummy Springs is a quaint location prized by the locals and a favorite of pet owners. Many people walk their dogs up the trail, so much so that there had to be laws passed for having animals on the trail. If you take a dog, you must have a leash no longer than six feet. All waste must also be removed. These rules are for the other visitors’ convenience.
There is an actual stream running alongside the trail. The spring there is at its fullest during the spring and fall months of the year. Mummy Springs is a protected area that is heavily wooded and tranquil. Because of its popularity, the trail is well marked and is in fairly good condition. The serene setting and views of the Sheep Mountain Range are well worth the effort to most.
Unlike a lot of other popular trails in the area, Mummy Springs is really short and takes around thirty minutes to walk the entire thing. It’s only a mile long, going out and back, and there’s no climbing involved with the hike. In fact, it’s more like a leisurely stroll that gives hikers an opportunity to take in the scenery.
A lot of folks end up at Mummy Springs by mistake also. The famous Raintree is located at the Mummy Springs trailhead. Raintree is a bristlecone pine which is thought to be the oldest living thing in Nevada, and perhaps the entire country. Thousands of people visit Raintree every year, and many of them decide to take the short hike through Mummy Springs with their pets or friends/family.
If you feel like going through a short process to get permits, then there is a campground near Mummy Springs that has a community fire ring and some other features.
If you get on 158 outside of Vegas, you’re going to see various signs pointing you in the direction of Raintree. You can also look for Deer Springs and end up at the same location; once at Raintree, Mummy Springs is less than a mile away and the trail is right there and easy to find.
