Love - The Beatles inspired spectacle from Cirque du Soleil

Cirque du Soleil has long been one of Las Vegas' best performing groups. In recent years, they've started joining forces with other popular acts to give show-goers a little more bang for their buck. The Criss Angel experiment might not be working out too well, but now that Cirque has hooked up with The Beatles, if only in spirit for the most part, they seem to be back on track.
Before George Harrison of The Beatles passed away, he had formed a strong relationship with Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte. The two were planning to merge Beatles classics with the awe-inspiring feats performed by Cirque.
The idea was to create a masterpiece using music and the troupe's unique style of entertainment to form something wholly original. After Harrison's death, Laliberte continued to work on the theme, and in 2006, Love was launched at The Mirage in Las Vegas.
Cirque's newest show is phenomenal on many levels. Like all Cirque shows, the outlandish characters are in full force, singing and dancing and doing the type of stunts that give you goose bumps to watch.
However, Love is a little more toned down than previous shows. It revolves around using The Beatles classic music to set a mood. Since it's purely a musical with acrobatics blended in, Love does a great job of building up and switching from act to act using just the music. It's hard to find any gaps in the show at all. Everything consistently flows.
The Mirage Theater is stunning. When Cirque does a show, the entire theater goes through an intense renovation, and Love is no exception. The 1,500-seat theater was completely gutted and the stage was moved to the center, thus drawing the focus in on the 360 degree stage.
The sheer scale of the show provides an intimate feeling. The auditorium is rather big and it's easy to get lost in a dark corner for most other shows at The Mirage. However, Love keeps your focus throughout.
The show uses over 600 stage props throughout, and there are nine lifts and eight track-and-trolley systems working to consistently move props around the stage. As far as Cirque shows are concerned, this theater is the most technical they've ever performed in.
The most amazing part about it is that you have to literally go behind the scenes to know what they're using on stage. During the show, you cannot tell that they're using various lifts. Everything appears so fluid.
Many Beatles fans may be concerned about the actual music portion of the show. A band as popular as The Beatles has been ripped-off and torn to shreds many times by hacks attempting to capitalize on their music. However, Cirque does a great job with the songs.
Fans can hear all their favorite classics, including Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band, Revolution, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Lady Madonna, Hey Jude, Here Comes the Sun, and more, including the final song, All you Need is Love, turned into a whole new act.
Love is definitely one of the best shows ever performed by Cirque, and most fans tend to agree.
