Ferrari were the first team to reveal their new car for this year’s Grand Prix back in January this year. The Formula One rules have changed for this year’s race and so many of the teams have had to make adjustments to the cars to comply with the regulations and be allowed to drive in the races. The new rules will also mean that the drivers will have to change the way that they work.

The Ferrari car for the 2011 Australian Grand Prix is the F150, and it was unveiled on 28th January 2011 at the team’s Maranello factory. This year’s drivers have also been announced as Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa – and the pair took the red cloth off the car at the unveiling.

Last year, Ferrari didn’t manage to make the title for the 2010 Grand Prix which was held in Abu Dhabi but this year the team feels confident with their new car that they have a better chance of winning the Grand Prix. And the new F150 looks extremely smart too. It’s the usual Ferrari red and looks so sleek and aerodynamic.

From the front the new car looks mean, and there is no doubt that it’s got what is needed to win. The team have been testing the F150 since its unveiling in January – the first test was in Valencia.

Stefano Domenicali, the team principal, said that everyone is the team is very determined and motivated, and confirmed that there have been many improvements to the car. Domenicali also said that the new car coupled with the two extremely talented drivers gave him new faith and hope for Ferrari at the Grand Prix in March.

Ferrari continued developments on the car throughout February and they were due to race at the Bahraini Grand Prix, however this even has now been cancelled due to protests making the area dangerous for drivers and spectators.

Aldo Casto, the technical director also commented on the new car and said that the regulations were the main influence on the new design for the F150. He confirmed that changes to the car include a removal of the double diffuser due to regulation, as well as a moveable wing at the back, and a new fixed wing at the front. The front of car has also undergone pretty drastic changes, and the safety for the drivers has been increased because crash testing is now much more tight than ever before.

The chief designer said that the shape of the car has been totally changed, and that the driver seat is now slightly higher than on last year’s car, so the airbox is also higher. As they are no longer allowed the double diffuser they have fitted a diffuser that ties in the with the new rules, so the shape of the exhaust has changed in order to use the new space wisely.

Overall, it would seem that the new Ferrari design has got everything that is required and we may well see them take the title this year.
