City Review: Spring Valley, Clark County

As far as vacationing in the United States, you’d be hard pressed to find any area with more to do than in and around Clark County, Nevada. Not only is this the home of the famous gambling hub Las Vegas, but it’s also one of the world’s most popular vacation destinations for hikers, ATV enthusiasts, sightseers, history buffs, and much, much more.
The city of Spring Valley is located in the center of all the action. Only two miles west of the main Vegas Strip, Spring Valley receives much of the Las Vegas overflow and also its own tourists due to the hotels and restaurants located there for people who don’t want to spend the money for resort stays or who want to see other sites in Nevada.
Spring Valley also contains quite a few middle class to upper class residential neighborhoods and boasts an economy independent of Las Vegas, as evidenced by the nearly 120,000 permanent residents of this small city.
At its start, Spring Valley was only one community. Pardee Homes, a large development company, purchased the land owned by Stardust International Raceway in the 1970s and began construction of a housing community. Eventually, the residents petitioned the Clark County Commission in hopes of creating an independent town.
Spring Valley, once a small community, was now one of the smallest Nevada towns, encompassing only one square mile. By the millennium, Spring Valley occupied most of the entire southwestern quarter of Clark County and bordered southern and western Las Vegas.
If you were in Spring Valley and didn’t know about the close proximity to Vegas, the town would seem like any other budding city area. There are a host of subdivisions, strip malls, restaurants, parks, and other basic features. However, most boulevards in the city lead directly to Las Vegas or out of town to the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and other attractions of the area.
One of Spring Valley’s biggest attractions is the Canyon Gate Country Club. Of course, this is one of the town’s best loved features, but not many outsiders have the privilege of golfing on this pro-style course. As far as visitors go, there are a wide range of entertaining options to choose from, like the Pink Jeep Tours, pictured and in the video below, for starters.
Tours are offered of the area, including Las Vegas, and other surrounding areas. The Grand Canyon Tours also pull in big business for the town. Spring Valley is also home to one of the best bars in Nevada, Rain in the Desert, and the famous Playboy Club.
Essentially, most of Spring Valley is an upscale place where many famous people choose to live. Everything in and around the area is sure to bring tourism in big numbers, and the city does well to accommodate guests in every way it can.
