Anil Ambani, India's second billionaire

If you think regular brothers get into heated fights, you should see two billionaires slugging it out. Anil Ambani and his brother Mukesh Ambani are two of the richest people in the world. They both crack the top ten list, and Anil's fortune weighs in at approximately $40-billion.
As of 2008, his huge fortune tripled in size from 2007, but is fluctuating to date due to the financial crisis. His brother is famous for eccentric building projects, such as his 27-floor skyscraper home in Mumbai. Anil, on the other hand, is famous mostly for arguing with his brother over the direction their company is taking. Anil is Chairman of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group and is married to Tina Ambani, a well-known Indian actress throughout the 1980s.
Ambani's father, Dhirubhai, started the family business and Anil and brother Mukesh were born into wealth. Anil quickly took to the family business and joined the Reliance Company that his father founded in 1983 as Co-Chief Executive Officer. Anil immediately succeeded in leaving his mark on Reliance.
He is credited with pioneering a long list of financial innovations in various Indian capital markets. One of his most famous ventures was leading India into overseas capital markets. Since 1991, Reliance has raised over $2-billion from these markets. Anil has since been known as a financial wizard.
The Reliance Group is India's leading textiles, petroleum, power, petrochemicals and Telecom Company, and most of that success is owed to Anil and his keen business sense. Anil is the Chairman of Reliance Communications, Reliance Capital, and also Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance energy.
He has a 66% personal stake in Reliance Communications. Ambani is an avid sports fan, and has been linked to purchasing, not one team, but three: Newcastle United and Everton (Premier League football clubs), and Portsmouth.
The recent financial crisis - most famous for the “housing bubble” crash in America - affected the entire world. Many experts say that this is the world's first global crisis and not even a fortune like Anil's is safe. His net worth (in terms of company worth) dropped substantially for a while after the recession first hit, but Anil and his rock-solid companies are pulling through just fine. He was named to the list of Indian Trillionaires (Indian Rupee) in 2007, and has earned some notable honors over the years.
A Times of India poll voted Anil the Best Businessman of the Year in 2006, Bombay Management Association awarded him The Entrepreneur of the Decade, and he was even voted the MTV Youth Icon of the Year in 2003. Anil is the less famous of the two billionaire brothers, but in terms of accomplishments and innovations, Anil leads the pack not only in his immediately family, but in most of the world. The 49-year-old Ambani is sure to make headlines as he continues to be one of the world's most influential businessmen.
