This is a short biography of Larry Page, co founder of Google Inc, now known as one of the world's most powerful people due to his passionate technological endeavours.
Larry Page was born on 26th March 1973 to a Jewish family in Michigan, USA. He with the help of his class mate and friend would in later life help to transform the world of technology.
Both of his parents were professors of computer science at the Michigan State University in their home town. Because of their professions, Page recalls computer equipment and magazines cluttering their home when he was a boy.
Page has an older brother, who was apparently responsible for teaching the young Page how to disassemble things in their home and this further fuelled his interest in how everything works. He says that he had always had a strong interest in invention hence his later interest in technology.
Okemos Montessori School was the first school that he attended from age 2 to 6, and he then went on to East Lansing High School from which he graduated in 1991. After high school he attended the University of Michigan where he obtained his BSc honours in computer engineering.
Next he completed a master's degree at the University of Stanford in the subject of computer science. This is where he would meet his friend and business partner, Sergey Brin, when they both enrolled for the Ph.D in computer science.
During this course Page became enthralled by his dissertation theme of web page links and back links, which also sparked the interest of Brin. The pair went on to establish Google Inc in 1998.
Their journey started when the pair recognised that they had huge potential together while studying for their Ph.D, and they began their ventures in search engine development by purchasing cheap computer equipment to continue their project from their dorm.
Due to the success of the extracurricular activity, the pair decided to suspend their studied to pursue what they realised was a very powerful search engine and a potentially huge business. Brin and Page's family and friends also realised the importance of the project and contributed finances.
Page and Brin found a garage to rent in order to house their assignment, and bought servers with the money that their family and friends had given. The project soon gained the interest of Andy Bechtolsheim, a co- founder of Sun Microsystems and wrote a $100,000 cheque for the pair.
The cheque from Bechtolsheim had been made out to "Google Inc" which had not yet been incorporated; the boys therefore incorporated the company immediately under the name Google Inc, and later deposited the funds from the Sun Microsystems founder. This was the turning point for them.In 2007 Larry Page married his wife, Lucy Southworth, an American research scientist. He has a keen interest in alternative energy, including hybrid cars and became executive producer of a film in 2007 with his business partner, Brin, called Broken Arrows.
