A Quick Visitor Guide of Augusta National Golf Club for 2011 Masters Spectators

The Masters Tournament is the only major Golf tournament to be held at the same location every year, and its home is the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia in the United States.
The Augusta National Golf Club was commissioned in 1931 by Bobby Jones who also established the Masters Tournament. Clifford Robert, an American investment dealer and golf administrator of the time also became the chairman, and the club was then built by Alistair McKenzie and completed in 1933 when it was opened for play.

As you enter the main gates of the club, you walk along to the main plaza area. There is an indoor area here where there is an exhibit area, where you have the opportunity to look at previous Masters Tournaments. There are displays with information of each Masters Tournaments and the winners of significant tournaments, showing photos, text information and even clothing from the previous winners including a display of Tiger Woods’ historic Masters win in 1997.
Across from the exhibition area, there is a golf shop which is one of the main golfing stores of the entire Augusta area. There are Masters Tournament souvenirs inside for all budgets. You can buy all sorts of golfing memorabilia as well as golf clubs, golf clothing and accessories including golfing gloves, tees and balls. As you leave this area, you can follow the path which leads you to the golf course itself.
When you reach the golf course there is information listing all of the tournament start times and information on the course. These are usually printed too so that you can take one with you. At the golf course entrance there is a main scoreboard which lists the names and scores of every competitor who will be entering in the Masters. This is an excellent place to meet people or to agree to meet if you lose the people that you are with.
To the left of the score board there is a hill and if you walk up, you will reach the putting green. You can easily follow the holes around by using the maps provided at the entrance. If you are interested in the features at the course, there is ‘The Big Oak Tree’ located next to the clubhouse which was planted over 15 years ago. There is an architectural ‘Crow’s Nest’ for amateurs who want to stay on site during the tournament with room for 5 people. A memorial sits at the front of the clubhouse called ‘Founders Circle’ holding plaques in honour of Bobby Jones, the man who founded the golf course, and Clifford Roberts who was Jones’ adviser and subsequently became the Augusta Golf Club chairman.
Other features include the Hogan Bridge located on the fairway of hole 12, named after Ben Hogan who broke the course record in 1953, as well as Nelson Bridge near the teeing ground of hole 13, which was named after Bryan Nelson for his outstanding performance in 1937.
