Foxwoods Resort Casino is a stunningly beautiful hotel-casino located in Ledyard, Connecticut. It is by far the largest casino in the world, as measured by sheer floor-space for gambling. With 340,000 square feet of gambling space, Foxwoods can hold more people than almost any two other Atlantic City casinos.

The entire resort comprises 4,700,000 square feet of space. The casino area has over 380 gambling tables which include blackjack, craps, poker, and roulette. There are well over 7,400 slot machines, and even a bingo room and keno parlor. There are several restaurants located there, including a Hard Rock Café. Foxwoods has 1,416 hotel rooms and a two-story arcade, which is mainly for children and teens.

In 1986, Foxwoods was founded as a bingo hall. Though it was rather large to be a one-trick-pony, the success of the bingo hall quickly grabbed the attention of some entrepreneurs. A Chinese Malaysian named Lim Goh Tong financed the casino in Foxwoods. Tong, who passed way in October 2007, founded the only legal casino in Malaysia.

The Pequot's, who are a tribal nation of Native American's located primarily in the Connecticut region, added table games to the casino in 1992. This move from bingo hall to game parlor was quickly followed with the addition of slot machines in 1993.

That same year, former New Jersey State gaming regulator G. Michael Brown became the chairman of the casino. To appease many of Connecticut's naysayers, Foxwoods agreed to pay the State of Connecticut 25% of their overall slot revenue.

This number translates to over 200 million dollars annually. This now famous casino plays a host to various events each year. Foxwoods has been used for movie locations and is a frequent hangout for many mainstream celebrities. The WSOP (World Series of Poker) and PPA (Pool Players Association) each hold tournaments on the 3 million square foot grounds.

At Foxwoods today, any person from any walk of life can enter the Resort Casino and have a wonderful time. It has been compared to Disney World, only for gambling parents. But it's a whole lot more than gambling taking place there. On any given night you can witness fantastic and artistic shows, grab something to eat at one of the 25 different restaurants, or take your children to have some fun and let them get lost in the huge arcade.

The Pequot tribe survivors have fought hard to make gambling legal on their rightful land. America has always been stubborn about gambling, and Connecticut is definitely no exception. After the casino was built and started to establish a customer base, other tribes of the U.S. began to start an upheaval.

The fact that Foxwoods was border-lining billions in revenue seemed to make other tribes jealous. Foxwoods is larger, more popular, and better located than any other casino in the nation. Tensions finally settled down and there's no longer any bad blood around Foxwoods; just good times to be had for everyone.
